Question: I would like to join the Canadian Forces.
What are the basic requirements?
Answer: You must meet the
following minimal conditions:
be a
Canadian citizen (if you have a permanent resident status, you may still be
considered eligible for employment under certain conditions); be at least 17
years of age (16 for the Reserves and Military College) with parental/guardian
consent for minors; have successfully completed Grade 10 (Sec III in Quebec);
some entry programs have additional academic prerequisites.
Question: Do all Canadian Forces
members need to go through the basic training?
Answer: Yes.
Question: Do military
people have to wear their uniform all the time?
Answer: No.
With the exception of basic training, military people only wear their uniform
while on duty. Each year the band provides music for many military function across PEI, including Honour Gurads, Parades, Royal Visits and Mess Dinners. As part of its community commitment (about 15 activities per year) it participates in a wide range of civilian and veteran realated events such as the annual Rememberence Day services, St. Patrick's Day celebrations, Charlottetown Natal day, fund raising concerts for local high schools, monument dedications and Legion functions.
